About Davis Frost

From a Vision to a Movement

Davis Frost has been a trusted name in paint and coatings for generations. Our story began in 1936, when James T. Davis, Sr. opened a small paint store in downtown Lynchburg, Virginia. He wanted to make strong, reliable paint that people could count on. As the business grew, land was purchased in 1966, and by the next year, Davis Paint had its own manufacturing plant.

In 1995, the company changed hands. Cal and Denise Henning, along with their business partner David Boie, bought the company and gave it a new name: Davis Frost, Inc. With a new name and new leadership, the company grew even more, while keeping the same focus on quality and service.

But the roots of Davis Frost go back even further. The company also comes from Frost Paint and Oil Company, founded in 1918 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. These two strong companies came together, bringing their experience and values with them.

    • We create coatings for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM). These are the companies that build machines and tools. Our OEM paints help protect these products so they last longer and perform better.

    • Train cars need strong paint to stand up to long miles and all kinds of weather. Davis Frost railcar coatings help protect trains from rust and damage, keeping them safe and strong on the tracks.
